About History and Headquarters Information
Dear Victorinox,
I hope you will respond back to me regarding this matter!
I would like to present my complaint regarding my dealings with the Victorinox Swiss Army repair center in Monroe Connecticut, United States.
I have a very old Swiss Army watch that I purchased in 1990. It was a very nice stainless and brass watch and relatively expensive. I had the battery replaced several times.
The battery had gone bad again so I sent it to the Victorinox Swiss Army service center in Monroe Connecticut, United States with a note: Please change the battery
1. After a while, I did not hear back from them so I called and after some confusion on finding my watch they told me it was unrepairable and would send it back.
2. I received the watch back a week later.
3. I then felt sad looking at this beautiful unrepairable watch and thus decided to bring it to a local jeweler and asked to have the battery replaced.
4. In 10 minutes he replaced the battery and handed the watch back to me fully functioning with the correct time and date for $11 including tax.
5. I was elated and left the Jewelry store.
6. On the way home I started thinking about how Victorinox Swiss Army Monroe CT treated me and I become upset that they told me it was “unrepairable”
7. I then called Victorinox and asked what the status of my watch was in an effort to start the conversation from scratch:
a. The lady told me exactly what I was told the first time I called, the watch was “unrepairable”
b. She then added that the movement could not be replaced because the watch was so old. Thus indicating that the movement was bad.
c. I said to her, well that is interesting since the watch was working just fine before and is now working just fine after I had the battery replaced locally.
d. After some discussion she told me “you don’t know the whole story”. So I asked her to tell me the “whole story”.
e. She said the technician opened up the watch and saw grease and oil in it and because of that by Victorinox standards the movement needed to be replaced.
f. I said that I wrote a note simply asking that the battery would be replaced.
g. She said they can’t replace the battery if the watch does not meet our standards.
h. I asked to speak to her manager who was busy and was told she would call back.
I thought about it during the couple days that went by while I was waiting for the manager Brook (203 929 6391) to call back.
She did call back and adamantly and more strongly emphasized all the above. I presented to her my case against Victorinox as a moral issue as follows:
1. I looked up the Victorinox repair center on the internet and read the instructions: https://www.victorinox.com/us/en/FAQ-Watches/cms/service-watches-faq
2. Where on the website does it say that they will not service a watch that had a battery replaced by an unauthorized service center as I was told over the phone?
3. Where on the website does it say that they will not replace a battery even if the customer specifically asks for the battery to be replaced?
a. I can appreciate Victorinox not guaranteeing a battery replacement on a watch previously serviced by an unauthorized dealership. (I purchased the watch at a national brand jewelry store)
b. But to open the watch and purposely not put a new battery in it…Why?
4. Brook told me the movement was bad and needed to be replaced but since the watch is so old Victorinox no longer carried the movement
a. THE MOVEMENT WAS NOT BAD! It has been working for 32 years and is still working!
Let me ask you a question: What would you do with a quartz watch that you were told the movement was bad and needed to be replaced and that there are no replacement movements available?
I would have thrown it out!!! Thank God, on a lark, I brought it to a legitimate jeweler! Which I now do not consider Victorinox a legitimate jeweler.
I am offended by the way Victorinox handled my case and on behalf of others who would face the same ill-treatment ask that you correct these immoral dealings with your customers.
Regards,
Matthew
