History

The story of Tesla Motors began in the year 2003. The co-founders were Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning who became the CEO and CFO of Tesla respectively.

The name “Tesla” was chosen by Martin Eberhard to represent the company, as Nikola Tesla was one of the pioneers in the field of electricity. The domain name teslamotors.com was registered by Marc Tarpenning on 23rd April 2004.

Elon Musk became the investor of the company, after investing in the Series A vehicles. He officially became part of the company in 2004 as Tesla’s chairman. The launch of Tesla motors had a huge impact on the electric vehicle market.

In 2006, Tesla got their funding for their Series B round, from Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page. In the same year, Tesla revealed the prototype of the Roadster and the final car was launched in 2008. The official production of Tesla’s sports car began in March 2008.

Elon Musk stepped up as the CEO of the company after the founders left Tesla. Everything was turning out to be good for Tesla on the upper front, but in reality, Tesla had landed in financial trouble.

    Driving south on hwy 5 in California’s central valley, I was driven off the road by a Tesla. The guy driving it seemed oblivious. I was in the right-hand lane, he pulled into the right lane without even looking. I learned that Tesla has “auto-pilot”. Please send the car back to research & development to correct the problems with your “auto-pilot”. Also, I suggest training for drivers with this feature. This feature does not mean the driver doesn’t have to pay attention!!!

      Did you really do your homework on fascism or did you listen to an angry echo chamber that easily hurls ugly word vomit. Research is more than listening to those who agree with you. People desperate to hold on to power will say anything to keep it or get it. (so both sides) Power is a drug. Discourse is very productive and teaches you many things. I spent a year listening to both sides about Elon and it was very hard to find some people for a while due to media oppression. Talk to someone who isn’t angry on the other side and really see what they have to say and present. You will be surprised how many people will talk calmly about anything and will still respect you on the other side of the ideas presented.     I have not had solar production since August of 2021. I had service come out multiple times and the last service technician requested all panels to be replaced. Those panels were ordered and have been sitting in a warehouse since September 2021. I have contacted Customer Service and Scheduling multiple times and have received no resolution to date. I was promised call backs from Supervisors as well as representatives at least 5 times and still have not been contacted. I just spoke to a representative who escalated my issue again. I am a previous Solar City customer and never had any issues with service or responsiveness addressing my issues until the latest issues under Tesla’s management. I am pretty sure if I review the original contract you are not living up to the terms of it. I need someone from the corporate office who can actually address my issues to contact me ASAP.

    I would like to preface this by saying that I graduated from medical residency in 07/20 and a week later the first thing I did was purchase my long awaited dream car, this Tesla. I’m so depressed over the events of the past 6 months and although it might be too late for anything to be done for my situation I would like to help prevent others from having to experience this.

    My tesla was towed to McCarran auto body, 2500 Prater Way, Sparks, NV, the only Tesla authorized body shop with 100 miles, ( next closest is Sacramento )on 05/28/21 following an accident when I hit a curb on the drivers side. Since May, Geico and McCarran have been unable to communicate and I offered to hire a mediator for this process. McCarran additionally damaged my Tesla by using a fork lift to place the vehicle on the lifts and destroying the driver side rocker bottom panels and the rear bumper which I have photos showing were completely undamaged during the actual accident.

    I spent 2-3 hours at McCarran with the Geico adjustor in July in order to help facilitate communication and I thought an agreement had been reached in early August.

    I received the emails from Tesla throughout October and as recently as 10/25 as regarding all shipped parts and their arrival at McCarran. The week of 10/12/21 I was notified by Geico that McCarran had now reported as new damage to the Tesla battery. I was also notified that the car will be deemed a total loss. I am also aware that my car was left sitting in the lot un-charged at McCarran auto body.

    Next McCarran had sent GEICO a bill for storage fees on 10/15 for the Tesla sitting at the shop starting from May 28th. GEICO stated that they don’t cover storage fees and this would be my expense outside of my insurance, also that I had 2 days to have it towed with no destination/towing instructions from McCarron. (To where did they want me to tow it as it is in many parts and untowable?)

    I then had to had to hire the services of a lawyer to help resolve this. Jerry the owner at McCarron finally agreed to drop the storage fee charges. This morning I released the car to be towed to the salvage yard, however it is still untowable so I don’t know when this will occur.

    I loved this car so much that I reached out to GEICO to find out what the sell off value would be for me to purchase it from them and retrieve it from the salvage yard but I have not heard anything.

    Also I would like to add that I can never buy another Tesla while living in Reno, because knowing that if anything happened to the car it would have to be towed again to McCarran auto body for repairs and I am unwilling to be forced to deal with McCarran again. I just can’t take this risk and purchase another Tesla. 😞

    I ordered a 2021 Model 3 thinking brand new but found out it has a “used vehicle certificate” attached to it in “document” section in your account summery for e-signing!
    Amazing how you’re strung along for weeks anticipating the day of delivery of your “brand new car”and finding out it’s USED!
    What a huge disappointment I have ever experienced in my life!
    Being lied to by the sales manager in Walnut Creek about the car since day one for example: being built, Odometer reading, built a month ago, and all along it’s been a used Tesla and he thought I wouldn’t read the fine print and just sign the contract and get trapped!
    Even used car dealerships are more honest….what a disgrace from a known prestige company like Tesla to mislead their customers thinking you’re buying a brand new car only to find out if you read the fine print that it’s a used Tesla! And to top it off I bought a bunch of accessories for my so called brand new 2021Model 3!
    Such wasted time, energy, and life changes I’ve made just to be let down!

    We purchased ou Model X on December 23, 2019 and love the car immensely BUT three times now the car has come to abrupt stops in the middle of busy freeways putting my wife and I in extreme danger. Horns were honking and tires squealing as cars around us moving at 70 plus mph slid around us. I frantically stepped on the accelerator pedal and it was dead-no power to the motors. Quickly turned on the 4 way flashers and shifted the lever to neutral, reverse and then foot on the brake to get into drive and after about 30 second the pedal came to life and we were underway with no mishap-this happened three times on three different freeway with similar results. I was either in auto pilot or cruise control at each time traveling at a 65-70 mph rate. The car was taken to the Rocklin, CA service center and the technicians determined that it was driver error and instead of hitting the accelerator I put my foot on the brakes causing the car to stop. I have owned and driven cars with cruise control since the 1970’s and always lightly rest my right foot on the accelerator pedal to be ready and alert at all times. There is no way I would hit the brake pedal on a car that is stopping heavy traffic. The technician told me that computers never lie but others may. Total cover up to what actually happened.

    I had order tesla Model Y last year and paid $2500 deposit. Back in march 2020 I had recived e mail that my order will be deliver soon. Then due to covid 19 it got delayed. Last month I had received e mail that my order will be ready to deliver on june 1 2020. And they asked to make final payment, I did that on May 29 2020 and I took some loan on purchase that also got paid overnight by my bank to Tesla on may 29 2020.. I call springfeild NJ center to change my delivery date to June 2 2020 and they did. I was out of state so cut my trip short and came back to take delivery. But I I got call from center and I was told that they will not be able to deliver my order due to some defact on Model Y they need to fix it before get delivered so I got another delivery date June 6 2020. Now today I got another call and I was told that my order will not ready for delivery till june 13 2020. I am so upset with Tesla I had cancel my order I will never ever buy any Tesla product. I so upset because Tesla took full payment and I am paying interest on loan that I have taken from my bank and I do not have my Model Y yet. I was treated like I was buying peanuts for $55000.00.

I talked to 8 different people with no results. We have bought 3 Tesla’s. Everytime you call they pass you on to different person.     Ordered my model 3 a few days ago and was offered a trade in amount on my current vehicle that immediately changed to a significantly lower offer after I agreed to that amount and ordered the model 3. Is this how business is done at all Tesla dealerships? And when I confronted the salesperson they admitted to seeing the higher amount while ordering and that it changed after doing more research on my vehicle after I was told that was the trade in value I would receive. “Bait and hook”? I think so. I asked for something to be done about this but no one will budge on the issue. Someone please help.

    I am a three time Model S owner. Below is my experience at a local service center that I’m still surprised by. I had to call them yesterday to ask why they have not responded to me! In the conversation I was told the $1275.00 fee was because my car was shipped from California…….the car came from Baltimore!!!!

    When I took delivery of my Tesla (VIN 5YJSA1E20KF305458) on 6/24/2019, it had 19-inch wheels and turbine rims however, my motor vehicle purchase agreement and the driver-side door information chart clearly showed the required configuration of 21-inch wheels. In addition, the fascia/front bumper underside is damaged.

    The service center offered to purchase the 21” tire and rims and have the fascia replaced later. This is fine however; I traveled form Virginia Beach after I was told on two occasions that the car I was purchasing was ready; only to find that this was not the case! How do you not see that the car is not properly configured if you preformed the receipt inspection, which I am charged $1200.00 in fees to be conducted? I have no confidence that a proper inspection & setup was done! Below are some concerns that have come up since I have been driving the car:

     When stopped at traffic lights the 360 display of surrounding vehicles jitters and dances around, especially when the surrounding traffic is making turns.

     The alignment needs checking. Car drifts to the left.

     When on active cruise control the car abruptly slows to a stop on the highway for no apparent reason. It recently happened July 14, 2019, when the speed zone on highway 58 in Suffolk VA changed from 60 to 55 MPH.

     I was on I-85 heading south from South-hill VA to Durham NC using cruise control and the speed limit displayed on the odometer changed to 65 MPH although the posted speed limit was 70 MPH. The set cruise speed did not change. It did the same thing on the return trip. After reading the Auto Pilot section of the manual, I guess it needs the GPS/NAV data updated.

     When activating the turn signal to change lanes using the cruise control, the car slows down even when there is no surrounding traffic. In addition, when changing to the left lane to overtake a vehicle the car slows instead of speeding-up like the manual states. It seems as if something is loaded backwards or the software is corrupt.

     When the car accelerates, while in Active-cruise or manual driving, it acts as if it is in chill mode; although I do not have chill mode selected.

     When the car brakes while in active-cruise, I can hear a rattle in the direction of the left side of the windshield. I also hear, what I believe is, the brake pedal being operated; I understand that sound but not the one near the left side of the windshield.

    I would like the service center or mobile team to thoroughly inspect my car and correct all deficiencies. In addition, I would like to have the $1275.00 destination/documentation fees refunded to me because of the very poor customer service; definitely not, what I should have had to pay for!

      Dear Mr. Burton,we own a 2020 Model X and on three occasions, the car came to an abrupt stop on the freeway while using cruise control and auto pilot. horn honking and brakes squealing, I frantically pushed on the accelerator which was dead, shifted the lever into neutral and back into drive, my wife was trying to call 911 to get the highway patrol out to flag traffic and after 30 seconds or so the accellerator woke up and we had power again. The service technician said I purposedly put my foot on the brake instead of the acelerator causing the car to stop-hogwash but they will do nothing to help.

    It has been over a year. I call and call and you never get back to me. I really liked the car, but I think I will never get it. This is the story of my life, I never get what I want. I am single and I live alone. I have been fantasizing about how my Tesla will appear on my driveway and my neighbors will see it and be zealous. but no, there is never a car, just my broken heart and a feeling of lost time. Even my three dogs are feeling bad because of this. Up to now my life has been in shambles, but now it has taken a turn for the worse, I really am not sure if I can go on like this.     I’m having issues with my solar system (approx. two years ongoing). The issue is that I keep getting an Error Arc Fault E050 and it shuts off the system. So at times I’m without solar energy for a few days. Your Technical Support Team has not been able to resolve this issue. Now I’m being told that it’s an engineering problem. I would greatly appreciated if this matter can be resolved ASAP! Your company (TESLA) wasted no time on the sale and install of your product. Just wish they would do the same to resolve this matter.

    I HAVE BEEN TRYING SINCE JANUARY TO GET THE SOLAR PANELS TAKEN OFF MY ROOF IN ORDER TO REPAIR MY ROOF WHICH IS LEAKING. MY INCIDENT NUMBER IS INC4239848. I’VE SUBMITTED SIGNED DOCS 5 TIMES EACH TIME I’M TOLD THERE’S ANOTHER REASON TO RESUBMIT THEM. LAST TIME 4/9/2019 I PRINTED AND SIGNED THEM BOTH ME AND MY HUSBAND, NOW THEY SAY THEY CAN’T ACCEPT THEM BECAUSE THEY WERE EDOCS AND NOT DOCS THAT CAN BE PRINTED SIGNED. WHY IN THE HECK WOULD YOU SEND THAT WAY IF WE CAN’T USE THEM! ELAN MUSK CAN SEND A CAR INTO SPACE BUT I CAN’T GET THE PANELS OFF MY ROOF COME ON THIS IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE! NOW MY MORTAGAGE COMPANY IS CALLING AND THREATENING LITIGATION IF I DON’T RETURN THE MONEY FOR REPAIRS OR PROOF OF REPAIRS SINCE THE CHECK WAS SENT TO ME BACK IN DECEMBER 2018. NOW I’M TOLD EVEN AFTER I SIGN THE NEW DOCS AND THEY ARE FINALLY ACCEPTED I HAVE TO WAIT UP TO 6 MONTHS BEFORE THEY CAN TAKE THE PANELS OFF. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE, WAIT MAYBE TO MY WORST ENEMY! I REALLY WANT THESE PANELS OFF SO I CAN FIND A COMPANY WHO CARES ABOUT ITS CUSTOMERS AND NOT SO MUCH SENDING A CAR INTO SPACE.
