About Sur La Table, History and Headquarters Information

Sur La Table, based in Seattle, Washington, USA was founded by Shirley Collins in 1972. The founder was passionate for food and had an aim to offer the best selection of cookware, gadgets, linens, and books that would entice people and bring them in the kitchen, around the table. She used to import specialty items from France (her most liked destination for cutlery) quite often. Since the opening of its first store, it has expanded to 130 locations all around. Currently, it is a subsidiary of Investcorp. It was listed as the second-largest specialty cookware retailer in the US.

Sur La Table, which means on the table is a retail company that sells kitchenware products, including cookware, cutlery, cooks’ tools, small electrics, tabletop and linens, bakeware, glassware and bar, housewares, food and outdoor. The products are sold via physical locations such as its 100 stores in 30 states across the country as well as through their website and catalogs.

Along with all these facilities for the customers, it also provides them with cooking classes; which help people to gain knowledge about kitchen techniques, gift registry program and a blog called A Sharp Knife & Salt which emphasizes on food, chefs, restaurants, and products.

The Sur La Table in Raleigh, N.C..27612 has hired me, but uses Paylocity as their payroll information site …I have reached out for help as it is impossible to navigate where tasks are, and once you finish “tasks and form signing” those tasks are also next to impossible the to find as there is no tab. It is 8:43 a.m. and your voice mail says you open at 8:00 a.m. I left a voice mail. No one at the Raleigh is familiar with the “new” Paylocity function, for me to begin employment I need to finish signing paperwork online. Paylocity has “no” customer support for employees. And this location in Raleigh has been unable to help navigate the site. I need someone in your HR to reach out to me. addressearth1@gmail.com and I left my phone number on a voice mail.

I am a culinary instructor at Sur La Table. And we just had once again another change in our kitchen set up for the 2nd time in my short time here. The table set up is the biggest issue for me the way “corporate wants it set up” is completely on functionable for our kitchen. What corporate seems to not understand is that every Sur La Table kitchen is different and needs a different set up we are not one size fits all. The “L” shape you want set up cause the student in the class to stand shoulder to shoulder with no personal space. We original had them set up as 2 big table which encourage the Students to get to know each other without having to sit in each other’s laps!! And allows plenty of room for prep work items and utensil. This L shape set up dose not allow people to stay 6 feet away from each other either!

I was disgusted to find out that you are not paying your staff during this pandemic. I’ve spent thousands of dollars at your stores, and don’t plan on spending anymore. I also plan on telling anyone and everyone I know of this appalling and abhorrent behavior.

Most employees were making more by staying home collecting furlough unemployment plus the extra $600 per week. I would be more concerned for them allowing employees to work Ill and remain at work until receiving positive COVID tests. And then returning without a negative test. I won’t shop there again because of their irresponsible attitudes and greed.

I was appalled to learn today that your stores in Westchester County, a hot spot for the Corona virus, are still open. By doing so you are contributing to destinations for irresponsible people and putting profit over safety. You are leaving your staff vulnerable to exposure as well as potential injury from volence and theft as they are alone in isolated settings since more responsible stores have closed. Today even your biggest competitor took the high road and both closed and agreed to pay their staff.
One of your stores is in Yonkers New York and is particularly at risk due to the increase in the number of cases in the area.
You need to review your position immediately. I have to date spentviver $1000 in that store in the past 6 months but will not spend another cent to support an organization that doesnt care about its staff or its community
