About State Farm Insurance

History

State Farm was founded in 1922 as an automobile insurance company by George J. Mechlere. It ventured into various other insurance types such as home insurance, accident insurance, life insurance, and others.

Over the years, it ventured into the finance, mutual funds, and banking sector by opening its bank in the year 1999. It is a bank with no physical office. All its transactions are carried out through the internet or a mobile app. The bank soon saw profits because of the large volume of insurance holders State Farm has as its clients.

In 1950, State Farm expanded its business by holding a competition among its agents to develop ideas to increase the reach and range of the company. It rolled out the auto financing program where clients can make their insurance with the agents' help. It was devised by the then CEO and his two banking friends.

State Farm changed its logo a few times over the past 99 years. Its logo was a symbolic representation of the three insurances provided by the company during its initial years. It changed its logo in 2012 to represent the finance industry.

The State Farm operations in Canada were sold to Desjardins Insurance in 2015. The process was completed in 2019, making all State Farm’s assets go to the Desjardin Insurance firm.

I am black I can’t get a discrimination in racism got to stop. My secretary got paid he black paid Timothy he black to Black people got paid but I can get paid because I have a dream dream to have universal life church housing for domestic violence survivors like me men black men who went to prison when a prostitute 49 years old stole my Larry and Kathy dishwasher paycheck so I whipped her ass and then I go to prison

  • Amber says:

Statefarm is literally the worst company we have ever dealt with. My biggest mistake was leaving Nationwide after 13 years and going to State Farm but I was completely lied to by the Agent and his minions. Anyone can become successful when they are liars. Statefarm should be shut down for fraud! I will be telling al of my friends and family to stay far away from the god awful company.

  • Christina Gornto says:

My father unexpectedly passed leaving me everything. Shocked and house included. Storm came through and took of shingles from roof and the black paper under. It was raining in the house. Carpet soaked in 2 spots.

Filed claim and gave photos and video. Everything is in a trust so no probate, it all goes to me and my name added to everything. So you’d think no issue.

Someone dropped the ball. Nobody out tarps on the roof. And today we have had high winds and rain again.

I have State Farm in the state I live in. My agent says this is not acceptable and will help me contact corporate. And get something done.

I’ve been in Arizona for a month. I need this taken care of so I can go home to Indiana.

This is less than professional and ridiculous. Everyone so nice but it’s hung up at the Q&A department.

Now today more storms so there is going to be more damage that needs repaired and I’m told that’s a whole new claim.

    ARE YOU PEOPLE KIDDING ME!

your corporate office needs to contact my personal agent Joe McMillan back home in Indiana and learn how to get things done.

My policy is pause up for the Arizona property. I am on it. And it is storm damage. And it’s your agreement if it’s paid and there’s storm damage, you pay to repair or replace.

I am very unhappy with the lack of everything from this process. I can’t sell a house with a bad roof. And I can’t go home until it’s fixed and I get it listed with an agent.

For the love of god get your shit together!

  • Linda says:

Why does your claims representative reply with, your claim has been “concluded”. I understand that “concluded” means completed, but completed how? You are paying, you are denying? Is this something the representative came up with on her own or a company term? When asked what that meant? She said, just that, “concluded”.

  • Kevin says:

How do you change agents if you are not satisfied with your agent?

  • Tamika Thrash says:

State Farm has by far the WORST standards in place for handling their policy claim, when another party insurance disputes an accident. Although, evidence show the other party at fault. I filed a claim for State Farm to act on my behalf on 8/26/22, and my claim sat untouched until 9/12/22 when I took the initiative to call them. From that point it’s been hell! I’ve spoken to over 10 different representative that appear to follow a script. There is no one claims person specifically handling my claim. My car has sat at the salvage yard going on a month, I have made every attempt on my own doing follow-ups with Stste Farm to get my car moved to the dealership, which “I” arranged by the required date. I was told by a representative to ask the dealership, if the car could arrive a day earlier, I did so, and they agreed, I had to call State Farm back & told by two representatives the tow company was contacted & the car will be dropped off on 9/27/22. Again, “I” did a follow-up to endure the car was taken. To find out two different things from the representatives, but by both that the tow company DID NOT deliver my car. When it has to be at the dealership by 9/28/22, Other dealerships “I” was left to call have no openings until late October. And, State Farm has done NOTHING and I’ve done their job trying to problem solve. When I’m in a rental faced with an expiration date, and their lack there of are creating unnecessary time in the rental. Yet, they think will pay because no one is doing their job. The relationship with whatever tow company is horrible & the communication & efforts with State Farm is AWFUL!!!! I am seeking a contact information from corporate because I have documented all names, dates, time and details given by it seem to be thousands of people I’ve spoken with, including a message to a supervisor, who had an employee to return the call to me. And, NOTHING has been accomplished! Claim#113-38K8-N20.

  • Deborah Mace says:

I have been a customer of State Farm for more than 40 years and have never had an accident and have never been dissatisfied with them until now.
Last winter there was a flash ice storm in my area which resulted in hundreds of accidents. We were caught in the storm trying to get home and ended up behind multiple cars trying to make it up an icy hill. The cars in front of us were sliding backwards. In trying to avoid getting hit we attempted to back up and slid into what we think was either a snow bank or a rock wall covered with snow.
We filed a claim and as a result I lost my safe driver discount. I can’t believe after 40 or more years accident free all it takes is one accident (hardly my fault) to lose my discount. My agent called the underwriter and was told there are no exceptions over $1,500 and would not add my discount back.
Apparently I would have been better off letting the car hit us rather than try to avoid the accident, at least then we wouldn’t have been at fault which is pretty sad.
We wouldn’t have even filed a claim but the car is a lease. There was only a minor scratch but because of the area the entire bumper needed to be replaced it could not be buffed out.
I’m just wondering what real benefit there is to being a safe and loyal customer if it only takes one strike and you’re out. Thirty or forty dollars may not seem like much but when you’re retired and on a fixed income every little bit makes a difference.
What is even more frustrating is that there is no way to contact the corporate office to file a complaint the only email I can find (customersolutions@statefarm.com) is undeliverable I am beyond frustrated.

    Signed unbelievably disappointed,

State Farm Auto claims has been stealing money from me and only giving a portion of my money. You need to comply with California laws no more defrauding me anymore please. I’m injured and you have caused me more pain. You are already in non compliance with the California Department of Insurance laws and regulations.

  • Terry says:

Try working for State Farm for over 50 yrs, a widow at almost 70 yrs of age who is trying retire and have a State Farm agent in Texas steal $4000-$4500 of your salary and laugh at you when you when you ask for your paycheck and she looks at you straight in the face and tells you that she is flat ass broke and the request for your pay was so funny you made her wet her pants! I tried talking to her AFO who wanted nothing to do with either her or me. The agent is contacted by our TWC who after 6 mons of lying to the State she finally admits she did steal my $4000-$4500 & swears she will pay it. Never does, within 2 months she is caught stealing from her policyholders and terminated by our AFO!! THEN FILES BANKRUPTCY and tells everyone she stole from including the state to go to hell because she filed bankruptcy and is flat ass broke! Never got a penny of my $4000- $4500 that I worked for (her agency WAS shut down because she was caught stealing from the policyholders) and the AFO closed the office and refused to discuss anything regarding our missing paychecks. We all had to file with our workforce commission who found her guilty of theft. BUT none of us every got a penny of our missing pay.

My name Lavern Davis. I live in Pennsylvania. I have an open claim as a paying customer, and for the last 5 days no matter how many times I called to give the correct information on where my car was at (4) times.
I gave them all this information after calling back to fell the I was switching garages. The lady on the phone told me she has all my Information and all I had todo was pay my deductible and show proof of it and estimate. I paid it showed proof and sent in the estimate. And now they have the nerve after dragging their feet for the last five days doing nothing I’m going to be out of more out of pocket expenses, and may end up having to miss work due to their negligent behavior and lack ok work. But you know as long as they have their jobs why would they care if I have mine.
Negative 5 stars. ” Like a good neighbor State Farm is there” with what a stick of dynamite to blow your life to hell. Thanks for wasting 5 day of.my tmeand the garages

    Good morning.
My name is Manuel Ivan Flores. I was involved in a car accident on 20 DEC 2021. The person that rear ended me has the State Farm Car Insurance. I am very dissatisfied with State Farm Claim Adjuster. Claim # 1128P636G, this claim still active. I am experiencing a hard time every time I speak with the State Farm Adjuster. I believe he is errant, disrespectful, and does not has the Personal Skills to dear with people. Thank you.

Why can i not get a refund from State Farm??????? Please read

I just found out that a policy I cancelled in 2009 that State Farm has been taking funds from my retirement account that i rarely use. My wife caught it when going thru my finances. I have had the run around from a Insurance Company in Dallas Texas at which it seems to have my policy. But no clue who they are. I purchased and closed my account 35 miles east of Dallas. Then I call the Corporate Office several times and get a claim number from Escalation and Billing to get back pay. Then I get a call from the Dallas Office from a Guy Name ED who works for Scott Bogue who I have never heard of until this came up.

Im retired Army and have moved 4 times on 14 years but its my fault that I get no refund for not keeping my cancellation. I have requested the renters insurance policy that i had but they will not send me one!

This guy keeps telling me is i can come up with Documents from 14 years ago I could get between 30 days to 1 year back of the money that I paid. Its around $6,000 that i should be refunded but back to the point ED in Dallas keeps calling me asking for documents i don’t have from 14 years ago. Its beyond frustration and no one will give me an email address other that customersolutions@statefarm.com but the email was returned to me. mltipsord@statefarm.com i the email that i just received from Maggie at the Complaint Department that this claim has been conclude by underwriting and their decision is FINAL!!!!

If this is the way that a Major Corporation should do business steer clear. I was never contacted via Email, Text, Phone call and ZERO mail in 14 years from this Corporation but my policy kept being renewed even after being cancelled.

I can be contacted at harely2001sport@aol.com in this matter and I hope that someone in the Corporate office reads this but I doubt that will happen as well.

  • John M says:

I called State Farm (SF) Owner/Agent Brendon Walker (BW) of Las Vegas, NV for a simple vehicle transfer, but he dated it wrong and the DMV refused to accept my proof of insurance. The DMV, Brendon’s office and I called him for 3 hours and I had emailed Brendon that morning before I went to the DMV. I know he heard the DMV and his office’s first messages.

I’m so embarrassed, I didn’t know that Brendon stormed out of his office to feed the monkey on his back, and he doesn’t like to be bothered until his staff told me. The next day, I sent Brendon and staff a heartfelt thank-you but Brendon Walker is so full of piss and vinegar that instead of correcting his error, he held me and my two policies hostage for 90 days until our country closed, the DMV suspended my registration and fined me $500.

I contacted SF Corporate dozens of times and begged them for help, and they ignored me. I’m 68 and terminally ill, and after 10 years and two policies, State Farm Corporation has ignored me for TWO YEARS!!!!

I’ve never had a bad word with anyone at SF until this. During Brendon’s 90-day Kamikaze run with my registration, he called SF Security and told them, I was calling him names, and they didn’t ask him why, instead SF Security sent me, the nastiest threat to call the police BY US MAIL!! Then he went to his new job at Allstate, and told them I was calling him names. He brought his old job baggage (me) to his new job.

    It’s all right here:

  • M Washburn says:

I just called my agent Amanda K’s office in Oregon and I understand they can’t insure my girlfriend because of her record but I was asking one of her people Ken I think was his name. Don’t ever deal with him. He has zero knowledge of policies and makes stuff up when he gets frustrated. I proved him wrong with the first other company I called. That’s just the tip off the iceberg with this office. My girlfriend and I have called several times and never get calls back. We have to call back and never get the agent, so our answered differ from whoever we chat with. I don’t understand how an office or people like that can work in this industry. Been with State Farm forever but when we switched to this agent we have had nothing but problems. May want to reconsider if she’s an option you’re looking into.

  • Paula Wilson says:

My husband and I have been with State Farm for 14 years. We have never filed a major claim. We own our home, no mortgage. We are senior citizens and take care of our assets.State Farm was recommended by our real estate agent, even though my husband being a Decorated Veteran, we had the option of USAA.

We filed a claim when we had an issue, it was the dishwasher. State Farm denied the claim.
State Farm is not a reputable company. They only wanted our money and when you file a claim, they do not pay. They did not even show up to handle the claim in a timely manner. We had to contact our local agent to contact the Atlanta division to get someone to our home, after several weeks. They did not even contact the plumber or flooring businesses to verify the damage and to determine the original.

State Farm cannot be trusted to handle a claim that would have been less than $15,000. How can you trust them if your home caught on fire!!! Don’t walk away from State Farm; RUN!!!!

  • Georgiaette Spivey says:

State Farm Insurance company is scamming customers. Their policies for homeowners goes up every years. My policy premium deductible is $5000.00 this year last yr it $1947.00 because the 2400.00 policy dropped 2 % making my deductible $5000.00 is this possible I asked and my agent Hannah Nickell either this or the will drop your policy after 50 yrs of being with state farm.

  • Emily says:

We were in an accident 9 days ago that was not our fault. Lady ran a red light hitting our truck and horse trailer. Thankfully we didn’t have the horses on board. They have yet to haul our horse trailer and are basing an estimate on pictures alone. This accident also put my husband and I out of business since we own a horse hauling company. We are about to lose our house since we can’t pay the rent due to the fact that we have had to cancel hauls. State Farm won’t help us with loss of wages because neither of us were seriously injured in the accident. We were also told that we are more than welcome to go after the other insurance provider of the woman who hit us. However, it is a fly by night agency and they aren’t willing to pay out anything. So rather than State Farm stepping up and helping us go after the other company, we have to use money we don’t have to go after the other company. Very disappointed. Not good neighbors at all.

  • Jackie mogey says:

We have been insured with State Farm fir over 34 years. The current corporate ruling of pushing homosexual books on 5 years olds discuss us. We are considering a different company.

  • Shirley B. says:

A 50 year customer who thinks you need to stick to selling insurance and stay clear of pushing social agenda’s. Distributing books on “gender identity” will NOT endear you to many parents and grandparents who may seek insurance elsewhere due to you trying to meddle in children’s education.

  • PJ Tisdale says:

I will be canceling my insurance policies with State Farm as they exposed themselves as forcing their political beliefs onto their customers. I do not want to do business with companies that are political. State Farm supports sexualizing our 5-year-olds while they are at school. It is not their place to be involved in politics as their political views are offensive to many of their customers.

  • Susan Slanec Gleason says:

It is with great sadness that I post this note. My father was a pallbearer in the founders funeral and was in the first management training program this company had. I was raised in a State Farm family and spent many wonderful summer days at State Farm Park. My brother and father both worked until retirement at Stare Farm and I worked summers there when I was in college. I thought this was the most family oriented and caring company that existed – down to their fabulous COLA program. I was shocked to see on the news about the contribution of transgender books to schools. While I respect LGBQT and have no issues with this community I do not understand how anyone could think that this would be an appropriate corporate thing to do. State Farm has gotten very large and perhaps has ventured so far away from their roots that their culture must have dramatically changed. Perhaps the times have changed so much that I am out of touch but it seems to me that when a company has had the success that State Farm has had sticking to their roots would make some sense. I’m afraid the Rusts, Mecherles, Concklins, Coveys et. al. are embarrassed by this decision and the flimsy walk back.

  • UPSET POLICY HOLDER says:

STATE FARM Do you want to stay out of politic and leave young kids alone and stick to insurance. I never thought in all my days that my insurance company would play a part in indoctrination of political and social issues . WOW kindergarteners? Looks like all our insurance policies should be rethought since State Farm is focused more in disrupting the the innocent lives with no representation or developed decision making skills Since these young one are not capably of making their decision but rather a form of brain washing. STATE FARM BUTT OUT OF SOCIAL ISSUES. LET CHILDREN BE CHILDREN AND LET THEM ENJOY THEIR CHILDHOOD WITHOUT DECEPTIVE POLITICAL MANIPULATION.

  • Dan G says:

Very unhappy with State Farm Insurance. They have been giving me the run around for two years now on hail and wind damage to my house. I’ve had three different roofers tell me I had hail damage and I had obvious wind damage. They first denied all claims, but at the same time said my chimney could be repaired for $252.00. (What a joke). Now they finally have added another $1,100 to the chimney minus my deductible of $1,000 but still will not pay me what it cost to have repaired. ($2,000) As far as hail damage to my roof, they say their is no hail damage when you can see it, and three roofers say their is damage. I asked for a copy of the photos and the report from the State Farm Adjuster and he says he is not allowed to give me a copy. What do they have to hide? If they are honest and really care why can’t they give me a copy of my own roof inspection and report? State Farm has acted in Bad Faith! Do not use them!

Agreed. I JUST finally received my checks. They obviously waited until the VERY LAST minute that they had to issue them. I, too, have had State Farm for about 20 years … only recently have they turned to shit. My premium changes every month (up, of course), I can’t get anyone to answer a question ~ or at least not with an answer that is worth a shit. I am actually in the middle of composing my ‘monthly nasty gram’ to them now and was in search of any other email addresses I can find to cc and came across your post! Just figured I would chime in and concur. Lol. Hope you at least get your refund checks soon!! I will be shopping insurance as well. This is BS ….

      • Done after 25 years says:

My premium kept going up each month as well and I got sick and tired enough to switch recently to the big G and now will save $546 annually for the same policy. Should have switched years ago!

I was sitting in the front passenger seat of my bosses wife’s suv parked in a parking lot on July 15,2021waiting for my boss to finish locking up the heavy equipment when a car cut over four lanes and got launched up over a curb and sidewalk slamming into the back end of the SUV. I now deal with a spinal injury which I am now pretty much useless compared to before the impact collision. For example my boss told me to check the oil in the semi I said ok to not be able to lift the hood then having to walk up to Brian and ask if he can open the hood. My mind is so messed up with the negative self talk of being useless or I’m now always finding my self annoyed and activated with people I have been hurting my family and friends cuz I’m always in pain or hurting or making comments to strangers because I have no patience anymore. My bosses wife’s suv had over $7000 in damage including having the subframe compromised. I have an MRI proving my injury plus the amount of damage to the SUV and the other two cars needed to be towed away one being totalled. I have had to listen to loren laugh on the phone saying it was a fender bender at most because the bumper didn’t fall off or thehatch didn’t open from the impact. I happen to have the accident on film from a tactical shop across streets servalence camera yet I not only get insulted but I get lowballed and get added grief because I’m in debt I’m damaged will most likely need surgery which when that happens know around five to seven years from the. Will need another one. I know the pain I deal with all day everyday and with age can’t see it getting any better. Truly I am 100 percent a victim and yet for a company that claims diversity and compassion even professionalism I haven’t seen or been treated with yet. I truly think Loren credic (?) Is everything Statefarm claims to be professional wise she is not. I feel she should be terminated and if all your claim adjusters act like her Statefarm you should be ashamed especially if this is how you treat the victim of an accident with no fault what’s so ever. I don’t understand why you would even offer underinsured if you degrade and insult the victims with rediculous settlement offers

Was discriminated on because of my age

I have something like that. I got anonymous emails that told me my agent did this to me as revenge against SF for their treatment of the blacks.

I’m became a victim of reverse discrimination from State Farm (SF) who has had dozens of discrimination lawsuits filed against them by their black customers and employees. My SF agent Brendon Walker (BW) of Las Vegas, NV (now at Allstate) made a simple date mistake on my proof of insurance and then Brendon Walker, of the BW Agency and State Farm ignored the DMV and myself for 90 days

The DMV went above and beyond to contact Brendon Walker (six times) but he ignored them. I complained that my policies were with SF, not a-hole Walker so the DMV called SF underwriters twice, and they denied I had coverage both times. Our country closed and the DMV suspended my registration and fined me $500.

I was with SF for 10 years and had two policies and SF not only let their agent get my registration suspended but also ignored me for over two years and refused to send my file to me. Their security staff threatened me with the police anonymously, and they have refused to explain how they helped their agent hold an old man and his two policies hostage for 90 days until I was suspended.

      It’s all right here…

I will no longer get insurance from State Farm because of your stance on covid vaccines. You dropped Aaron Rogers over the issue which shows you support the experimentation on humans similar to what the Nazis did to the Jews. There is no way you can say for certain these vaccines are safe. No one can, not the scientists, not the immunolgists. They must be tested for for years to determine the long term effect. You are a bunch of mother fuckers and you can answer to God when you end up in his presence after you die

Dear State Farm, I am a long time customer, holding your insurance policies for both personal and business purposes in multiple states. I reside both in Illinois and Wisconsin. I find it critically important to reach out to you And share my feelings regarding Aaron Rodgers and his most recent irresponsible media exchange regarding our US President, President Biden. Referring to his office as a fake presidency. I find this not only disgusting but extremely irresponsible. Under the circumstances that Aaron Rodgers did not follow protocol and rules of the NFL in which he has signed a contract to do so and was paid handsomely. He then proceeded to lie about it. He disregarded his teammates well-being, his contractual obligation, as well as gave little or no thought to what his communication would do to the general public. I personally do not find that Aaron Rodgers represents the integrity of what I understood State Farm promotes and stands for. Aaron Rodgers and his most recent media blitzes is not only offensive but self-serving. He represents a holy than thou attitude and places himself above the safety of others and the president of the United States. Quoting that we have a fake presidency, and coming from someone who has misrepresented his position many times, and come across so self-serving is somewhat ironic. Particularly the word fake. His comments are also very reckless, unamerican, selfish and very offensive. Please reconsider your choice to have him represent State farm. A long time loyal customer. Thank you.

I need to speak with someone in the legal department about State Farm taking a statement from one of our employees. Your claims department is holding up the claim because they want a statement from our employee, but they will not give us a set time for a phone call.

    State Farm; Regarding claim #06-23Q7-00N
Please contact All Things Auto asap. They have diagnosed the damage and I have told them to delay repairs until your evaluation is complete.   I have been very disappointed with the way I have been treated regarding this accident. I am handicapped, with a service dog. You left my spouse, me and my service dog out in the hot sun for over five hours and then said there was nothing you could do for us because everything was closed. Even the tow truck driver seemed more interested in helping us than State Farm. My son finally had to drive a three hour round trip to help us. I only feel fortunate that we broke down close enough to home to have my son rescue us. I can only imagine what would have happened if we had the accident out in the desert between Yellowstone and home. This level of service is NOT what I have become accustomed to receiving from State Farm.  Now that the All Things Auto service center is ready, and have diagnosed the problem, we continue to wait on State Farm to take action.
