Oracle was founded in 1977 by Larry Ellison and Bob Miner, and Ed Oates under the name of Software Development Laboratories (SDL). It currently goes by the name Oracle. It shifted its office to Redwood City, California, where it has few distinguished buildings. Oracle parkway is nicknamed “the emerald city.” The buildings are on the bank of a lake that looks like emeralds, hence the name “emerald city.”

Oracle has a total of 137,000 employees, including the founders. It is a multinational organization and a pioneer in database management systems and software development. About Oracle

History

Oracle was founded in 1977 by Larry Ellison and two other friends in the name of Software Development Laboratories. Young Larry was influenced by the research of Edgar F. Codd in relational database management systems during the 1970s. In 1979, the company renamed itself as Relational Software Inc., and in 1983 became Oracle Systems Corporation after its flagship product Oracle database.

It became Oracle Corporation in 1995. It targeted mid-range systems and microcomputers to compete with the market leader, IBM. In 1990, Oracle laid off 10% of its workforce to accommodate the incurring losses. It was on the verge of bankruptcy when the marketing strategy changed, and it came back into the market. In 2000, it entered the hardware business, thereby expanding its territory. Oracle became a cloud and database software platform by the end of 2010. Ellison’s gamble on the internet world has paid him a great fortune.

Its earliest services include the Oracle database, which was the flagship product that brought it its name. Its current services range from databases to software.
