John Nuveen Sr is the founder of Nuveen, and he was able to introduce Nuveen to the public way back 1898. Before, the company’s name is John Nuveen and company. He initially started the business as an investment banking company that focuses in the distribution and underwriting of municipal bonds. The very first bond he writes was the for the Minnesota water company. After the WWII, John Nuveen Jr assisted the Marshall Plan administration.
In the year 1969, Nuveen was bought by the Investors Diversified Services or IDS, and in the year 1974, the company was purchased by The St. Paul Companies. In 2007, Nuveen was privatized as it was acquired by a Private Equity Group which is being led by the Madison Dearborn Partners for a whopping amount of $5.4 Billion.
