History

MSUFCU was founded in the year 1937. The organisation has been active for almost 82 years now. In the year 1937, there was a petition filed for the state charter, which was approved for the Michigan State College Employees Credit Union. The organisation was located in the Administration Building, located at the Michigan State College of Agriculture and Applied Science. During that time, the organisation had only $3,000 in assets and just 74 members. Then in the year 1955, the State of Michigan had renamed the Michigan State College as Michigan State University, and MSCECU had adjusted its name accordingly to Michigan State Employees Credit Union as well. There was also an additional credit union branch that was opened in Oakland County, Michigan, USA, in the year 1967, in order to better serve members. Almost four years later, in the year 1971, the credit union had relocated its main office to East Lansing, Michigan, USA.

Then in the year 1978, the NCUA had approved the credit union's application for federal charter, and its name was changed to MSU Federal Credit Union as a result. During that time, the organisation had grown to almost $40 million in assets and had over 29,000 members too. Later onwards, a new branch was added in Okemos, Michigan, USA, in the year 1983 and was then relocated to its current location in the year 2003 as well. The organisation also established additional branches in East Lansing, USA, in the year 1987 and on the west side of Lansing, USA, in the year 2003. A new branch in south Lansing, USA, was also opened as of the year 2005. The organisation continued to expand by opening new headquarters, by building in northern East Lansing, USA, during the year 2009. The credit union organisation had opened an additional branch in downtown Lansing, USA, in the year 2011 as well. Then in the year 2014, the MSU Federal Credit Union became the main official credit union of Oakland University and therefore was rebranded as Oakland University Credit Union, by adding an on-campus branch in the student centre, along with several ATMs scattered throughout campus as well. As of the year 2016, the organisation was merged with Clarkston Brandon Community Credit Union, which was headquartered in Clarkston, Michigan, USA. Finally, a new branch was also opened in downtown Grand Rapids, USA, by the end of the year 2017. The headquarters of the organisation is based in 3777 West Road.
