Founder
Sam Richman was a storekeeper who marked the starting of Gordmans. He opened a small clothing store named 'Outfitters to the Family’ in the year 1915 in Omaha. Dan Gordman joined him as a business partner and also became his son-in-law. Soon, the business which started with a small storefront occupied the entire building. Sam Richman and Dan Gordman named the company Richman Gordman in 1948 and expanded it to 157 locations.

History
Gordmans was the first company of its kind that started the central checkouts, self-service footwear departments, and shopping carts into the retail empire. The company enjoyed success even before the discount retail chains came into the craze during the 1990s. The business started long back in 1975 when an experimental store was established in Omaha to sell the off-season branded merchandise that had been out of the shelves of the malls with inexpensive prices. It was owned by Stage Stores since its bankruptcy in March 2017.

I was given a gift card at Christmas. All the locations are closed. I have sent emails and tried to reach out to numerous phone numbers. Someone should still be active somewhere with this business. I would not be so upset if the gift card was 5.00 or something. Clearly it is not and Id like to have something done about this

What is up with the Gordmans on 21st and rock rd in wichita??—-My daughter sent me this today she went to gordmans this morning to do Christmas shopping (we don’t live in Wichita——Man, what happened to Gordmans in Wichita????? That store is trashy now, Trash and dirt all over the carpeted areas. Big stains. Non carpeted floors look terrible. Stuff just sittin around, not organized. Stuff laying in the isles. Besides the loud buzzing which I guess was the lights, there was no other noise, like no music. All you could hear was the loud buzzing and people coughing. Ugh.Screw that store. And it was shortly after they had opened it was that bad. So they don’t clean obviously. ME–This Is SO SAD to hear this. This store is our favorite store and only reason we come to wichita. The store that opened in arkansas city ks is terrible 95% clothes cant move around in the store way to many racks of clothes/shoes and decor is not good. stuff on floor either tripping or running over it with the cart, Very sad!! a lot of people here love the one in wichita but now not to sure I will go back, we were excited for arkansas city one to open and its not worth the drive there. PLEASE do something about the gordmans on Rock road!!! Hate to see it shut down because people wont shop there becuz of being trashy.
