Founder
Sam Richman was a storekeeper who marked the starting of Gordmans. He opened a small clothing store named ‘Outfitters to the Family’ in the year 1915 in Omaha. Dan Gordman joined him as a business partner and also became his son-in-law. Soon, the business which started with a small storefront occupied the entire building. Sam Richman and Dan Gordman named the company Richman Gordman in 1948 and expanded it to 157 locations.

About Gordmans
History
Gordmans was the first company of its kind that started the central checkouts, self-service footwear departments, and shopping carts into the retail empire. The company enjoyed success even before the discount retail chains came into the craze during the 1990s. The business started long back in 1975 when an experimental store was established in Omaha to sell the off-season branded merchandise that had been out of the shelves of the malls with inexpensive prices. It was owned by Stage Stores since its bankruptcy in March 2017.
