About FIFA

History

The need for a single governing body for international football gave rise to the organization named FIFA. FIFA stands for Federation Internationale de Football Association. It was founded by Belgium, Denmark, France, Netherlands, and Spain’s football associations.

It was founded in 1904 in the rear part of the USFSA headquarter building in Paris, France. FIFA membership crossed the seas in the early to late 1910s by including various countries of Africa and Latin America.

During WW1 the FIFA saw an existential crisis with most of the players involved in the war and lack of funds and trust. Then it slowly recovered and organized the first football world cup in 1930.

Services

FIFA conducts, regulates, and ranks all the international football matches. It is similar to ICC for cricket and other organizations in other countries. Its services include organizing matches between international teams, organizing leagues, Olympics football matches and scrutiny, ranking all the international football teams based on their performance, ranking players, awarding championships, and best player awards for players.

FIFA is also responsible for punishing and curbing corruption, foul play, and any other malpractices by any player or any country’s football association. They regulate the rules of tournaments, the dimensions, accuracy, and fairness of pitches, matches, referee decisions, and goals are reviewed by FIFA.
