About Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital, History and Headquarters Information
Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital (ECM), established in 1919, was a joint community effort to build a general acute care facility for northwest Alabama, US.
Named in the memory of late Eliza Coffee (1879-1904), the only daughter of Captain Alexander and Camilla Coffee, ECM started its operation on Aug 9th,1919 equipped with a generous funding from Camilla.
With 200 physicians, nurses, support staffs, dedicated OB/GYN and paediatric units and a full-fledged medical, oncology, pulmonary, endoscopy, 24- hour emergency trauma care services, the 358-bed hospital owned by RCCH Healthcare Partners was the most comprehensive medical facility in the area.
However outdated ECM facility was being too costly to maintain, repair and remodel. The administrators have built a $250 million facility, the 263-bed North Alabama Medical Centre, which opened its doors on 6th December,2018 and the patients were shifted from ECM. The abandoned building will be demolished, and property will be donated to the county.
