About Costco

History

Costco’s set of experiences started with Sol Price and his child, Robert, opening the main Price Club stockroom on July 12, 1976, on Morena Boulevard in San Diego, California. This brought forth another idea: a retail distribution center club. The Price family positioned Price Club Warehouse #1 inside a progression of old plane sheds recently possessed by Howard Hughes; that stockroom, presently known as Costco Warehouse #401, is as yet in activity today.

In 1983, James D. Sinegal and Jeffrey H. Brotman opened the primary Costco in Seattle.

In 1993, Costco and Price Club consented to combine tasks themselves after Price declined a proposal from Walmart to consolidate Price Club with their discount store chain, Sam’s Club. Costco’s plan of action and size were like those of Price Club, which made the consolidation more characteristic for the two organizations. The consolidated organization took the name PriceCostco, and participation became all inclusive, implying that a Price Club party could utilize their enrollment to shop at Costco and the other way around. PriceCostco flaunted 206 areas creating $16 billion in yearly sales. PriceCostco was at first driven by chiefs from the two organizations, yet in 1994, the Price siblings left the organization to shape PriceSmart, a distribution centre club chain in Central America and the Caribbean disconnected to the current Costco.

Senegal had begun in discount dissemination by working for Sol Price at FedMart; Brotman, a lawyer from an old Seattle retailing family, had additionally been associated with retail appropriation since the beginning. He started his retail contribution as a basic food item bagger. A subsequent store opened in Portland in October, and a third in Spokane in December 1983.

In 1997, Costco changed its name to Costco Wholesale Corporation, and all leftover Price Club areas were rebranded as Costco

  • Joseph Madden says:

They stopped making the white chocolate chip muffins, I’m mad about that

  • Sheila Gardella says:

My whole family & I are big fans of Costco Muffins. We go every week for the muffins & of course I buy others items. The Big Problem with the Muffins is that the packaging has been changed & not for the better. Costco no longer places the pricing sticker over the upper & lower part of the packaging containers. Costco now places pricing sticker on top lid of container which leaves for anyone to open lids.
I witnessed a lady open the lid of muffins and squeezed with her hand. This is not a touch & feel product. Costco members should be protected from food being publicly handed.
I called my local Costco Supervisor Dan he said it was a Cooperate decision to help view the price. I had no problem viewing price & they also have a sign saying they match with one extra package.
If cooperate feels they need to change location of sticker they should feel the need to place additional sticker to keep public hands from touching food. I will continue to buy only if Cooperate handles this issue.

  • Ron Molina says:

    PLEASE,
    1. bring back the Japanese senbei cracker bag mixes with nuts!
    2. why doesn’t Seattle stores sell Organic green tea boxes like @ CA Costco’s?
    Thank you!

  • TOMAS DE MATTEIS order #783039278 says:

I bought a Sony 75 TV on line, and latter found out that there is a white glove service that for $ 45 installs the TV, after hours trying to get to a human being, I was able to buy into the white glove program and paid the fee with a credit card.
Two hours latter I received a phone call from a so called customer service lady, who informed me that I could not buy into the program because I had not done so when I placed the original order, by the way there is nowhere in the purchase form that allows you the option of paying for the installation under the so called white glove program, and by the way the TV will be delivered on June 1th, there is plenty of time to communicate with everybody.
The customer service lady gave me a brilliant solution:
    1. I should receive the TV
    2. I should return’ the TV to costco
    3. I should repurchase the TV including the request to white glove service.
    4. She was unable/incapable of telling me where in costco site did the white glove option appeared
GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, Costco would pay to transportation cost instead of cashing $ 45 for the white glove service, not very smart
