The headquarters of the company is located in Deerfield, Illinois. It was founded in 1931 by Donald Baxter. He was a doctor by profession. He began the business by manufacturing intravenous therapy solutions. In 1933 as the need increased, the company opened a manufacturing plant in Illinois.
The business of the company boomed in 1940s when it discovered the vacuum – type collection container that extended the shelf life of blood from hours to weeks. In 1954, it expanded its business to Belgium. In 1971, the company built a manufacturing unit in Israel. The company expanded to other countries in 1980s and 1990s. The company also produces inhalational anaesthetics, products to treat end stage renal diseases, peritoneal dialysis, haemodialysis, etc.
