About Allstate

History

Allstate was born from a national contest conducted by Sears in 1925. Sears was a company dealing in car tires. Allstate was started by Carl L. Odell and Robert E. Wood as an insurance-by-direct-mail provider. Wood was the Chairman General of Sears at the time. He shared their idea with the board of directors of sears and they approved it.

The Allstate Insurance Company was started in 1931. The idea was to sell auto insurance in the same way that Sears was selling its merchandise.

Services

Allstate is an insurance provider. It offers both personal and corporate insurance solutions. It offers auto, life, property, and many other types of insurance products. They also offer estate and asset management services.

Facts

Allstate’s famous original hands logo was obtained from a competition among the employees in the 1950s. The company asked its employees to design a logo, and the best logo would win $50. Theodore Conterio won the contest. He designed the logo based on the “You are in good hands” concept which has been the company’s motto since then.

The “You are in good hands” motto was the brainchild of Davis W. Ellis. He was the company’s sales executive at the time. He coined the phrase when he was reassuring his wife that a doctor they had gone to see would take good care of their child. He brought the phrase to the company and they adopted it. The company sometimes refers to itself as “Good hands people”.

  • Ms. Stewart says:

I have been dealing with a claim against a TOTAL LOSS of our car since July 2022. All I have gotten from the claims adjuster – McKenzie Betteridge for months and have received NO ASSISTANCE on this matter. WE have been paying cor coverage and when the is a loss – we get NO RESPONSIVE or APPROPRIATE assistance. I see why others have written off ALLSTATE – They use to be a reputable company – It feels as if all they are interested in recently is commercials and robbing more clients.

    • Azaam Ramjohn says:

Ms. Stewart. Same here, Have been dealing with Allstate since 2021 and nothing has been resolved. Same on Allstate!

  • Craig Hanson says:

Allstate is crap – my car was hit by a Allstate customer his fault-3 month’s later my car is not fixed yet.

  • Michael Linrugger says:

These are stupid theives they don’t care. Jammarr Johnson the irian punk adjuster is a jewish punk they are not the right insurance company at all Sears queers I think own them. Beware of them crooked compay see as theives above you’ll be sorry ! They all lie I did know this till i scroll around.

  • Paul J. Wildes says:

The first number above transfers me to silence. The second number is disconnect. Good luck!

  • Marc Kovitz says:

As a new customer (auto and home) I have never before encountered a more inefficient, archaic, computerized phone system that drops calls, can’t recognize a request, and dumps you to some obscure voice mail repeatedly then Allstate. I can’t get through to anyone to update payment information !!!!!!!!

  • Agnes Krauter says:

Why have a broker ,she never contacts you when you leave a message .What’s the purpose if a broker 34yrs I had it .Krauter Family .

  • Keyona says:

I have been trying to talk to an supervisor for at least 2 weeks, and all they say is someone will call back and they never do. This is ridiculous.

  • Dianne Ulmer says:

We have been trying to get a hold of our Agency for almost a week They will not return our call. I need someone from the Corporate Office to call my husband @ 936-686-8803 as soon as possible. Please. We DO NOT want to talk to anyone from D & W.Agency. They are very undependable. Please call so we can get our insurance straightened out. The way I see it we’re not in good hands with D&W Agency

  • Arthur Meredith says:

I have been trying to get my roof fixed and they won’t even give me enough funds phones to fix my roof They are saying That they’re amount that they come up with is less than my deductible All state is a joke and I will be dropping them soon

  • Robert says:

Corporate Allstate states you are in good hands. Is Not true at all
Dealing with them as a customer as only cost me money and extra stress with pain delay treatment from a accident of no fault of my own this has been on going and is still on going as of now. There claims department will delay in every way possible to help the people who are customers as well only look out for them selves.
My claim Agent was able to get the health treatment needed as well time out of work taken. The Agent and this insurance company delayed to the point of neglect for there customer’s.
The corporate center is a complete joke and a waste of time to call. For you get the run around and waste more time of trying to get the help needed.
Or get claims resolved. Allstate is nothing but a market to cost the customer money and take your money in every regards to scam people. They show with words and in commercials a great insurance company. But really behind the scene they are crooks and liars. I hate this insurance company and I’ll be looking for a new provider from this day in time

  • Hani says:

    Good evening,

I have been trying reach you for a week now. I been having major issues and you have been no help at all.
You are not in good hands with all state. This is the worse insurance company. I will be contacting insurance commission to file a complaint.

  • Teresa Fisher says:

I have a policy with Allstate through Esurance. I filed a claim 2 weeks ago. Took a week for the adjuster to phone me. Sent her the info that I had, now another week has passed and she has not even bothered to call the repair company. I am very disappointed that when I phone her it goes to a voice mail that is always full and that her supervisor ( the only one that seems to be able to contact her) is on an extended leave and clearly states on her voicemail that you cannot leave a message nor can you email her because she is not reading nor answering them.
I just want my car repaired! Guess I am in NOT so good hands!

  • None of your business says:

You have been WARNED!!! Your telephone calls every day are now violating my privacy and I find it harassing continue and I will find no way to combat this but to take you to court

  • Ogbonna lewis says:

What’s Allstate corporate number I need to file a complaint.

  • Wanda Plemmons says:

Allstate has been mishandling my claim for 11/2 years. They keep changing adjusters, not communicating or just making excuses! I’m 69, my car was totaled. I got hurt!
    Not in “Good Hands “

  • Foreill says:

Worst company ever. 3 different agents told me 3 different things and Blaimed the agents before them for writing policies wrong. I
Believe they scam you this way. Stay away!!

  • Latana St George says:

I owned a duplex and after 23 years of paying their high premiums for damage done to the kitchen of one side, I was denied the claim stating it was hard living that caused the damage. No, it was deliberate damage and I have the pictures to show for it. However, They apparently do not understand “word of mouth advertisement” can do more damage, for them. From here on out, it is my goal to tell my story and share my pictures with anybody who I find looking for insurance, and or will listen along with all who know. Allstate is a rotten company to deal with.

  • Amelia Mazza says:

I would like to talk to a person who can help inactivate my status as active employee. This active status is preventing me from working. It is imperative that someone call me. My nexts steps are the Ohio department of insurance and my attorney.

  • Disapointed customer says:

I have been an Allstate customer for over seven years and I can say that they are an incompetent and ineffective company saying that you are in good hands; they should be ashamed. Allstate is the least insurance company to buy your home and auto insurance. They have no respect for the customers and like a lot of them, I only had bad experiences with claims. Furthermore, I have been mistreated several times by customer service representatives. Allstate is not worth it.

  • Love Your Space says:

I have been overly patient and am fed up to the point where I have had to file an official complaint based on the predatory treatment that I am as investment property owner is receiving. This has been the worst experience ever and I have been a homeowner for many years and never have had to deal with this and certainly did not expect for my first issue to be so horrible.

  • Unhappy says:

I just wanted to know what Allstate took in monthly on Rv policies, I have been charged for full coverage for several years and now I am told I do not have coverage for the problem? I have this Rv financed and what it the deal very unhappy!!!

  • Bernard Shaw says:

In January I had a car taken off my insurance and was told the bill was going to be 704.67 which I have proof was paid. Two months later I receive notice from DMV that I have no insurance, go back out and ended up paying another 900.00. Now either you have some really incompetent employees here, or someone is scamming me. Either way, after over thirty years with this company I will be shopping for different insurance, this is ridiculous.

  • Annonimou says:

Why do Allstate never want to pay claims. They take their clients through hell to pay claim, they asked for paperwork on top of paperwork so they hope that their clients will give up but they don’t have any problems taking your money through Payroll deductions. I think all companies doing business with Allstate need to re-evaluate on behalf of their employees because the hassle Allstate is taking their Employees through is not worth it. It is hard enough dealing with cancer but fighting the insurance company to pay benefits you’ve been paying for for years add more stress

  • M says:

Horrible is been months and the adjuster first denied our claim just so quick without even Try to find out what really happen her name is Dawn bridges and her supervisor is AMY temples and I provide a lot of information to them about what happen . I m the one who call and get information for them because they don’t even want to call them selfs !!!! I ask for another adjuster and another supervisor and Amy said no that is necessary to get the other supervisor or her supervisor involve???!! And I’m the know one who always is checking about the claim because if not they wouldn’t contact me at all . I email the ceo and not responde eather !!! So now is been another month that I haven’t hear from them I keep emailing and emailing and nothing. You customer damage our car and you said he never responded but how that’s not our fault! I send you a lot information pictures and I’m the one is been getting all the information the adjuster just denied and Amy just playing with our time .Mrs Wilson Can reach out to me ! This is a horrible, unfair etc etc. Don’t say my name doesn’t show n ur records please

  • Catherine Shepherdson says:

I have been with allstate for 29-25 years. My husband d passed and when I put the policy in my name I had to get a new account number and the works. OK? So upon getting my policy with Andrew Leach of Royersford, PA. I found the ins. Policy to high to afford. So in the beginning of January I canceled the policy. I had to do a voice recording instead of an agent getting on the line. Why, I do not know! Anyway. By the 25 th of January I returned a call from Brenda from Andrew office. She wanted to know when to cancel. I to her the day I called I Said on the voice mail ,” I am calling to cancel my policy , thank you” gave the policy number and went with a cheaper , policy with another reputable company. Allstate decided to take not only January’s payment out but February’s also which overdrafts my account. ( that is a whole other story) but bottom line I received a $20.00 check when I received an email and Brenda did say I would receive the $170.00 from January. I get a $20.00 check after all those years I had them as carrier. MY ADVICE GO WITH LIBERTY MUTUAL !!!!

  • Homeira Navid says:

I have really bad experiences with Allstate San Jose Stevens Creek Toyota with Manejer Ruby she is so rude she’s so mean she’s awful

  • Sue Yanez says:

Deny claims without documentation. Refuse to have executive office contact. Violates consumer protection laws. Adjusters not doing jobs correctly. Need to find new insurance for home. Ridiculous company.

  • Sue Yanez says:

It is illegal to service consumers deny claims and not have documentation for them. Allstate needs to follow the law like everyone else.

  • Ana Rodriguez claim# 0653414607 says:

This Message is for Steve Shebik as corporate complain. I have been having issues getting customer service agents to help with car rental extensions. Today i spoke to a lady name Jennifer who was very disrespectful, yelled, and placed on hold multiple times without waiting for my approval. she kept talking over me. • Donna Giuffrida says:

Allstate is a terrible company to deal with. Our daughter’s car was rear ended by your insured. We have been waiting over a month and repeatedly no action is taken. We had to rent a car and pay upfront. So let me understand this. Not our fault yet we have no car and are out of pocket lots of money. Go figure. Worst company. Never get Allstate

    • Ruthiesho says:

Hi Donna just was wondering did they ever take care of ur claim. I’m with them too but mine is different from yours I had a fire in the house right before Christmas and because I spoke up for myself I’m not now being chastise so that’s why I asked because it’s been three months now and nothings happened no repairs nothing for my home and I just wanted some heads up about what kind of company I’m dealing with because I didn’t choose them they are through my mortgage and I’m so frustrated with waiting that I I don’t know what to do at this point do you have any advice for me at this point.

      • John Price says:

        Good morning 847-402-5000!
I am so sorry that you and others are going thru this kind of trouble.
But if you take a good look around, there are a lot of insurance companies doing this exact same thing to people.
Refucing to pay clames, once they’re made.
Allstate isn’t the only one that’s doing this to people.
Some 34 years ago, I got reer ended by a drunk driver, while waiting for a red light to turne green.
I don’t know about how the laws work in other states.
But here in Florida, we have this stupid seatbelt law.
The problem I have with that is, that seatbelt law, nearly costed me my life.
And this is because of the fact that, I had it on.
My car caught fire with me in it.
I had to quickly cut myself out of that thing, with my pocket nife in order to save my own life.
But at the time, I had Hunters Insurance.
I filed a clame, but it got ignored.
The people at Hunters Insurance wouldn’t answer the phone either.
They wouldn’t even talk to my lawyer either.
I ended up dropping Hunters, and going over to Statefarm.
I got better treetment from Statefarm then what I got from Hunters.
You all mite wish to keep this in mind.

  • Ed says:

I have had all state for 40 years and now you do not get a address to mail your payment in. Not everyone is able to pay on the computer after 40 years it hard to switch but will be looking into it

  • Bob says:

Andrew and Daniel, I agree whole heartily! Why can’t a policy holder get a live person to respond to question not on the companies” list”?

  • Tim Dantin says:

I had Allstate car insurance since I was 15 years old, I am now 64 years old. After my agent denied my last 2 claims I decided to go to State Farm. My agent couldn’t have careless of my decision to leave. Bye Allstate,
    Hello Jake

  • John Calvert says:

I just want to tell you how fortunate I was in getting Kady in the chat room on June 3, 2020 at 1:00 PM. She was extremely helpful in getting the answers I needed to make a decision. She took all the tools at her disposal and figured out what was wrong, very efficient! She also expressed her sympathy in helping me understand what was wrong in the way my term life insurance was presented in 1997. I very much appreciated her expertise and professionalim. Thank You

  • fran mitchell says:

worst Allstate television commercial in many years ! take it away please. Some goofy guy pretending to be a dog and hanging his head out of the car window. find an ad agency with some class.

  • Robert Stevenson says:

we have three insurance policies with allstate insurance, agent – kelly freschi in LaSalle, Il. and will be cancelling the policies. Have never in our 78 years have had to deal with rudeness beyond the call. We have done the repairs and paid them ourselves just so we do not have to deal with this Allstate agent and her son. We are trying to let everyone that we know and our local newspapers that you are not in good hands with ALLSTATE INSURANCE. tHANKS FOR NOTHING, KELLY!!!

  • andrew raysik says:

why cant I get a human being to tell me, why you wont pay on a policy I paid for. The policy it is temp disability for a hip replacement, Im back to work now modified hours. yet I get the run around and answering machines
    Andrew raysik

  • Janet Joiner says:

I just saw your recent TV commercial, displaying the worst of human behavior now available to children. Smashing car windows along with the rest of the rudeness is beyond the pale for any responsible corporation. It isn’t funny and I cannot imagine that it would persuade anyone to contact an agent for your product. I hope you will pull this moronic piece and hire an ad agency that will produce quality, persuasive content that demonstrates responsibility for all viewers of TV.

  • Daniel says:

I have never had such a problem getting information about two annuities I have through Allstate. I have been on hold three times for over 30 minutes each time and have received five different toll-free numbers to speak to anyone at Allstate. I cannot get a person.
